The Long Run

It’s Sunday morning, cold, wet, misty. The alarm rings, you’re not really ready to get out of bed. But your gear is laid out and it’s time to go.

Kit. Coffee. Breakfast.

Before you know it you’re lacing up for the Sunday long run. It’s the only session you’ll find in almost every runners arsenal. From beginner to professional, one day a week, we go long.

It’s not about distance, speed, or pace. It’s about time. Time to yourself. Time to explore. Time on the feet. Time moving towards a goal. Time moving towards better health. It’s the time you feel alive.

Some people go alone, some people go with friends, but whatever the weather, whatever the circumstance, we all go. A new trail. A new friend. A new path. A new opportunity. Sharing the great outdoors with people all over the world. Some close, some far.

Out the door, one foot in front of the other, true freedom.

All over the world people lace up and head out. The long run connects us. It connects us to each other, to nature, to the world around us. It fuels the fire. Lights up your life. It lifts the mood, offers you a new energy. We find peace and respite in the work. We can truly lose ourself in the process. For the time we’re outdoors moving, nothing else matters but being there, present in that moment. Nothing matters but the long run.

Whether it’s tarmac, track, trail, asphalt, snow or desert. The surface doesn’t stop you. Step by step you can feel yourself moving closer to the goal. Sometimes the goal is just movement. The privilege of being able to head out and run.

Lungs panting, legs burning. It’s not about hard work. It’s about consistency & honesty. There’s nowhere to hide at the end of a long run. Your legs offer a gentle reminder of the hard work. The well earned progress you’re making.

Home. Shower. Coffee. Lunch.

The long run is done. We’re refreshed, inspired & motivated. We’re ready for the next task.

Excitement already building for the following week to roll around. When we run long again.
